I have a sharp little pain in the center of my forehead that is a bit annoying... but my insight to the big picture is becoming more clear...

Our server admin team has decided on a new method for the migration from the mulroney to newfoundland server. All accounts will be restored; however the process will take another 8-16hrs to complete.

Jerry, didn't you say that you had some alternate hosts you were considering using? Are they worth looking into, or is the present host a better deal/buy/whatever than what they offer?

in the same price range to move we would lose unlimited bandwidth down to 1gig which is about 200 gig ( on average) less then we use. But we would gain about 100Gig in server space.
To get at least 1gig of space and unlimited bandwidth or a liveable bandwidth on another server we would be looking at close to an additional 120 bucks a year (from what I have found). For the current set up we run aprx. 200 bucks a year including domain name costs.

Friday April 14, 2006 - 8:50am EST - Mulroney Connectivity Issues.
The migration to the new server is taking longer then anticipated in our previous update. --------
Friday April 14, 2006 - 8:50am EST - Mulroney connectivity Issues.
We are currently restoring from backup to the new server and this will take some time to accomplish. After the restore and client's accounts are backup, we will be bringing all servers in house to better monitor them ourselves as we have become very disappointed in our current server company due to this issue and have thus decided on this course of action; this outage has been very upsetting to both you and us. Again, we're sorry and do appreciate how patient you all have been.
-------
Friday April 14, 2006 - 12:30pm EST - Mulroney connectivity Issues.
Account restoration is continuing and as each account restore completes individual client accounts should begin resolving and loading site content. We appreciate the patience and understading of all our clients during this process. Our staff are monitoring the progress of the restore.

Friday April 14, 2006 - 2:15pm EST - Mulroney connectivity Issues.
Our staff is currently monitoring the restoration/migration to the new in-house server and the progress is going well but it is a little slower than liked. We thank you for your patience in this matter.

The site has been moved finally to the new server as well as the database. But there still is systme wide SQL errors that is not permitting access to the database.
So the headache continues. There is still no eta on when the sql will be fixed. Untill that time we can not access the forum.

I have never seen a server have this many difficulties. Not saying it couldn't happen...but I can't recall such an incident in my experience. This is f-ed up.

neither have I!
This has been one major massdisorganizedcopulation from the get go. What I was told last night is that the center where our server was located basically ingored the servers and wasnt doing proper updates and maintenence. It seems that after the buyout cetain techs at the off site lcoation were pissy cause they didnt get a raise or some such after the buy out, although they werent given walking papers liek the rest of the company. So those techs have been fired, the other site has been closed and all the servers from there has been moved physically in house. But the data damage to the servers have been so bad it has been almost impossible to recover everything and get it all to wrok corectly.
So all this rests on 3 or 4 guys that got a bug up thier but and has knocked out 4 different servers and thousands of clients for almost a half a month with whoe knows haw more many days there are of downtime ahead of us.

No real news from tech support. Server wide SQL errors abound.
Sometime tonight they are taking the server completely offline to replace the backup drive. Hopefully will know more sometime tomorrow...
don't hold your breath.

Ok everything is restored.
BUT
The main User part of the database has been corrupted and thus far I can not access anything. If tech or someone who knows how to manuver around MySQL cant help me regain access, everything is lost from the Forum.

Ultimately Jerry the database is just a mess of CSV (comma-separated value) information. The raw data can be picked through by hand. I'm not saying it'd be easy or even viable but if there are things needed then in extremis, things can be dug out.
