I'm thinking of either including this class into my game, or giving normal thieves some of the abilities of thief-acrobats. Any comments or suggestions? If you were to include the thief-acrobat class as a separate class, are there any changes you would make?

If you were to include the thief-acrobat class as a separate class, are there any changes you would make? I've never seen a Thief-Acrobat chosen by a player in an AD&D game. Giving Thieves the Acrobat abilities certainly couldn't hurt. Player opinions of Thieves became striking clear to me during my playtest of the Dragonsfoot collaboration dungeon - with players starting out with 200,000 XP, thieves are just not being chosen. Clerics with Find Traps and MUs with Monster Summoning spells seem to be the preferred method of dealing with traps in high level games.

We had some PCs run T-As when they first appeared in Dragon 69, but I don't think we had anyone run one after they appeared in UA. The T-A can really shine in a dungeon environment where you have a lot of verticality.

I would require the player become a monk if they wanted to do the things presented in the UA for TA. The class is "circus clown" corney, there's no getting around that. I'd limit this class to circus performers period.
If a player is a thief and wants to attempt any of this stuff just let them and reduce there chances appropriatly for trying to walk across a rope rather then climb across it. Otherwise this is all Monk stuff (garnished from watching years of Kung Fu and cheese ball kung fu theater).

I'd like to take credit for the concept, as well as the usage, but Roger Musson's wonderful "Dungeon Architect"series from WD was a key influence on my dungeon designs, back in the day. Hopefully Different Worlds will be reprinting and expanding on his work in the not-too-distant future

Actually, that kinda reminds me of Captain Hastings on the series Poirot. He always say 'Good Lord!' whenever something surprises him. Poor guy must say it fifty times an episode.
Except he always drags out the Lord part so it's more 'good Loooooooord!' with the emphasis on Lord.

Tommyrot! The whole lot! I've never seen a TA used either. Something about the idea that makes you go "Whaaaah?" when you first read it. Those skills should have been carved up and given to the thief and assassin classes...especially the later.
