That place is going to be packed to the walls with sycophantic ass-kissers attached like barnacles to the backsides of Gygax, Kuntz, Mentzer, and all the other "recognizable names" in attendance. I almost feel sorry for all of them (but then I suppose at least some of them actually crave that sort of attention and the ego-boost it provides...). Now don't hold back Foster. Tell us how you really feel! At least I get to play in 4 1st Edition games and one Call of Cthulhu session. And I've never actually seen any of those guys in person. I won't be kissing ass, but I might try to convince Gary to sign my Men & Magic book. :-)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you'll have a great time and if circumstances had worked out differently I'd love to have gone myself, but nonetheless I think the spectacle of all that ass being kissed at once is going to be pretty nauseating. And I don't mean asking EGG to autograph your book -- that's a cool and totally appropriate fan-guest interaction (though perhaps I just say that 'cause I've got a bunch of autographs) -- I mean all the folks who're going to be trying to hang around Gary et al. ingratiating themselves and acting like they're their best friends in the world. Perceptive readers will know one particular artis...err...person I have in mind...

Just what I was thinking Foster. Seeing Gygax is one thing, even with a bunch of Gygax fan boys at your side. I'd have no problem doing that. Hanging with the "new crowd" (who consider themselves peers, when in reality their material SUCKS) is another matter.

Reign it in.
The TLG folks and Fans have agreed to not make personal snarks and snipes here. Especially in the GENERAL BOARD.
It is completely unfair to take shots at them here when they have agreed to not do it themselves.
There is still a standing invitation at the TLG Forums for comments by all.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER SKIRMISH WITH TLG AND THIER FANS. PERIOD.

OK, the con's over, so come on Northy (and anyone else reading who was there) and spill everything that happened there, including all applicable hot goss and rumors. And if you've got pics (or links to someone else's pics) be sure to post those too. Inquiring minds want to know!

So much to tell and so little time! I posted this at Dragonsfoot. For the banned, here's what I've put together so far: Here's one of Darlene signing one of my favorite illustrations in the DMG: And a picture of Darlene 'back in the day' before her Jasmine: The Battle for the Mid-Realm collectible card game, that Wizards of the Cost ripped off for thier Magic card game. I hope she sues the crap out of them and brings the Evil Empire to their knees: I bought one of the limited sets and played a game with Darlene and her husband. It is a lot of fun! And finally here's one of Darlene holding up the original of the Unicorn that graces the inside of the DMG: I have lots more, but I'm going to try to put together a coherent page with relevant captions. I also need to colloborate with the rest of those who played in Frank's game so we can put together a decent narration of the events. I still have the map we made.

Oh - and that hexxed map is one of the maps from Yggsburgh, which will unfortunately be double-sided, as the costs went through the roof (according to Steve with the Trolls) for two maps.
Gary did ask about Gene Weigel when I was over at this house for a pre-convention cookout, where I met for the first time Gary, Frank, Jim Ward, Darlene, Tom Wham, and a whole host of others. I told Gary that Gene was taking a break from all things RPG-related.

And would you believe Darlene had forgotten about a lot of her artwork in the DMG that I showed her!?!?!?! So much of it was destroyed at TSR. It saddened me that such wonderful, evocative artwork was obliterated on a whim.

On Rob's board he said that Brian Blume showed up to play in Mentzer's game. Is that right? Isn't BB one of the terrible Blume brothers that screwed EGG (and by extension all AD&D fans) back in the day with their mismanagement of TSR?

I'll post the pictures. No one at Frank's table had any resemblance to Brian Blume.
