PDFs hmmmm...
I decided a long time ago (back before pdf's were popular and scanners were common place) that i wanted ALL my gaming material in PDF format. I had a laptop computer a used for gaming and i was going to a lot of cons... so it seemed pretty logical. I still have that old laptop too and if anyone knows how to unfreeze a harddrive on an old tandy 1100HD let me know... it had 90% of all my originial dungeons and games on it from the mid to late 80's.
I also have not changed my opinion in all these years. Unfortuantely scanning thousands of pages is not my favorite thing to do. So I buy PDFs if they arent security mucked or i buy them anyway, delete them as soon as I find a BETTER quality no security BS version on usenet or some file share.
Some people think they msut yell and scream about the legalities of it all, and frankly they can stuff it. If something is OOP and not available for sale on PDF and it is something i already own one or more copies of... hell yeah im gonna get a copy just so i wont have to scan it. If its old OOP and for sale on pdf i'll buy it and get a better copy if i can find one. If something is in print and i have a copy, yup im gonna get a pdf either buying it or locating one, usually both. If its in print and there are no PDFs for sale, I'm gonna get a pdf. If they ever make a pdf i will pay for it.
Am I a crook? Maybe, im no lawyer. All i know is that im not gonna risk damaging my books by dragging them from con to con or even game to game when when all i need is my notebook or palmpilot. My computer can be replaced a hell of a lot easier than most all of my books.
Im not too keen in grabbing files just to grab files. If you want the OD&D boxset with the suppliments... fine... buy a copy. Then we can talk about getting a pdf of the books. Thats my take on it.

found something out while taking a few minutes of checking in time to hit google...
if someone has heard about us and searches for Knights & Knaves we are #16, 2nd page of replies.
if someone is looking for an OD&D Forum we are Number TEN... first page!
AD&D Forum search has a ways to go since so many of the old sites that were 1/2e went 3e are still listed as AD&D. DF still holds that #1 spot strong.
We are also in top 50 if a search on Judges Guild is done.
But things are looking good... we are moving up and can be found... whoohoo! ;D
Keep up the great work guys!

More updates to the website...
I have added AD&D 1e Dungeon Masters Assistant Volumn's 1 and 2. These were the hot ticket for DM utilities and still work like a charm. They were originally put out by SSI. I have talked to all my sources and as far as i can tell they are now in the Freeware/Unsupported catagory and can be freely distributed. Of course if i find out or am officially notified to the contrary i will immediately pull them offline.
I have also added Byahkee, a Call of Cthulhu character sheet generator with loads of rules sets add-ons. It is very good and best of all its Free. This thing is one of the best generators I have ever found for ANY game system. The support has slowed down over the past couple years but it is still one of the best. It is worth the downloads to have it if you play or GM, Call of Cthulhu.
I also added some graphics to the Download page to make it more interesting.

Just a quick update and gripe....
Adjust the date of the website being up, in my original post, to probably be sometime early next week...
When i got the webspace, they said it will be up within 4 or 5 hours. When i got the domain name they said once i adjusted the name servers the domain name should transfer over within 2 or 3 hours.
Heh... what a crock.
Its taken over a day and a half for them to set up the webspace and now the domain name peeps are saying it could be yet another 24 hours for that to get switched over.
oh well.
I HATE WAITING!

Website notice. Jerry's Place is still up and running for the time being but as soon as i get the server info from my new webhost; Jerry's Place will be coming down and the new Knights-n-Knaves.com will be going up. This should happen by no later than Friday, 14 Jan. 2005.
Like the old site, there will be a downloads section which i hope to expand. I also want to expand the general gaming section and host OD&D/AD&D/Old School gaming material/suppliments for people. Just how much will all depend on how much webspace/bandwidth I will continue to be able to afford. (I am NOT asking for money!)
The Knights & Knaves Alehouse will continue here at Proboards. But I will also be adding a Chat room for online gaming and general chat. The Chat will be linked here on the forums as well as the website. I am also looking for a good intergrated diceroller for the chat. Of course this will depend on what the chat software is. I have a javadice program but it is not intergrated.
This all came about after geocities blew up on me last night and left K&K Alehouse without graphics until i could get them transfered to some borrowed webspace. This wont happen again. The host i have is very reliable and done business with them via our gaming guild for over almost two years now. I also figured this would help us out here at the K&K Alehouse since it will be easier to get recognized if we also have a "home" website that can be webcrawled.
I have no delusions, we are not going to compete with the likes of DF or Enwurld or the others for size, nor do i want to. I think and believe all here would agree that we should focus on QUALITY not Quantity. Let the "giants" fall prey to the Late-80's TSR to current WOTC mentality. The number of members and number of posts per day will ebb and flow... let it. Quality is the key that will sustain.

PapersAndPaychecks is working on a new project and has set up a new project board called the Melford Mystery. He is looking for feedback.
This makes him the newest moderator here at the Alehouse.
Check out his work. Its good stuff. We will soon be co-hosting his recently completed module, The Spider Farm, in our download section at the main website.
Spider Farm is the first of three modules. The Melford Mystery is the follow up to Spider Farm.

First I would like to Welcome Aboard our two new Moderators.
Rob - in the AD&D area Northrundicandus - The BRP Games area
I have followed these mens posts over many different boards and I have full confidence in their knowledge of the games and thier ability to do the jobs they have been asked to do.
I think the AD&D and OD&D areas will begin to pick up soon. I may be open for one or two more mods. I would like to add one for the OD&D board for sure. I am open to suggestions (PM or email me).
At this time I dont think there is a call for Mods in the Judges Guild, Dragon/Dungeon Mag, Holmes D&D, Battletech, and Tunnels & Trolls area aside from myself. But I won't hesitate to make way for someone more knowledgable than myself... so, if someone is interested in Mod'ing one of those areas, then let me know via the same.

I have no opinion on it as yet. Im a curmudgeon about going TO the movies unless it is just something that MUST be seen on the big screen.
So, I am waiting for the cable/dvd release.
Over on the Freemasonry boards on Usenet, the talk seems to be positive and the reviews have been good. But those are based on the up or down presentation of the Masons. Otherwise peopel are sayinig its a great action flick.
I am considering, picking up the book and go from there so can get all the cutting room floor parts as well.

That was the end idea they were going for. I wasnt impressed with the summation chapters at the end of the book... they made huge leaps to draw thier conclusions. But the rest of the material seemed pretty good... although again... one must us the BS filter to extract fact from fiction.

The Shadowlands webpage is a great source, not complete by any means but one of the better out there.
The Rennes le Chateau site you posted, I have been to a few times. A google of this and Templars or rosicrucians will bring up hundreds of sites. some arent worth spit but thats typical of the modern internet.
I had another really good site boomarked but i have misplaced it. i'lll have to dig around and see if i can find it again.
I recommend the book, highly. But be forewarned... its like trudging thru a medical reference book combined with a printer manual threaded thru 1500 years of european history. Definately not an easy read... mainly brief explanations/theories followed by unending names, dates, places, etc.
But hey... if you are a nut for tedious histories like myself then it will be right up your alley.
