Some have often said they wanted to toss the miserable loath out on his ear.....you know, that annoying player who copies every move you make to try and be as "cool" as you; the one who causes friction in the group, the clueless idiot that does everything by mistake to destroy group surprise; the obnoxious personality that ruins everyone’s fun. But I say, where are we without them. Half way through Casablanca tonight I couldn't help but notice similarity between Peter Lorre's greedy sleazy character and our past "table fool", a parasitic type who mimicked his real life per suet of wealth and power in the our AD&D games. He always showed up to play, to everyone’s disappointment. Yet, it was his character that always seemed to supply the humor in some unbelievably stupid move that resulted in at least his own miserable death (and usually taking out one of us or our best henchmen in the process. Yet his presence made the game feel more realistic in a way. After all, in real life, we have to work with idiots every day, we don’t typically have the option to ask them to leave. They surround us. Why should our AD&D worlds be any different. And no, the DM’s NPCs can’t fill this void, no one can pretend to be that stupid, shmucky or pathetically evil.
Well, that’s my take anyway, we have an oversupply of good players, and no dimwits at our table. Just an observation.

Heh,
Great Observation and right on the mark IMO.
i can tolerate a schmuck if they do provide a level of humor.
Of course, if all they are is just a schmuck and a non-humor producing one at that.... well, its time for a grenade enema.
