For the first time, I have created a cleric PC. I'm reading through the PHB so I can better understand the basic parameters, but I've got a question regarding spell acquisition.
A 1st lvl cleric can only use 1 - 1sy lvl spell per day. Does it always have to be the same spell? I didn't see anything that indicated this.
Ex.: The cleric prays/meditates the first morning for CLW, then uses it at some point during the day's wanderings. The next morning could he pray/meditate for Sanctuary as his one spell per day?
Does the % Chance to Know Spell affect Clerics or just M-U's?
Thanks, Bill

A cleric can pray for any spell from the list, it doesn't always have to be the same spell, and the % to know table does not apply to clerics. Note also that high Wisdom scores grant bonus spells to clerics -- so a 1st level cleric with a Wis score of 14+ will actually have 3 1st level spells, not just one.

Also note, if the DM is using the spell recovery rules in the DMG, a spellcaster only needs four hours of rest/meditation/sleep/prayer to re-memorize 1st and 2nd level spells. After that 4 hour resting period, each spell level takes an additional 15 minutes. E.g.: after praying 4 hours, our faithful cleric begins recovering spells. He decides to replace 2 of his 1st level spells, and 1 second level spell. So after the four hour rest period, one additional hour will be required to recover the spells: 15 + 15 + 30 minutes.
