For a look at the Skald-type Bard,check out the Castles&Crusades PHB from Troll Lords...and yes,it's the accursed D20,but the class itself rocks-and can be retrofitted with little work,as one of the goals of C&C was easy conversion of OD&D/AD&D/BD&D to and from the C&C format.
Failing that,i'd pick a fighter(skald) or a thief(troubador)give him a Performer/Entertainer background and instrument of choice,and let the PC deal any fallout resulting from angry hecklers and displeased ctitics... ;D

OOPS. Sorry,I missed that one.
Of course,I steal at will from other games-C&C,T&T,BRP,WFRPG,Rolemaster-all fodder for AD&D...I houserule a lot for individual campaigns. But i'll watch the "other games" references,thanks for the advice.
