Why is a thief no better then a fighter at finding a secret door. It seems like locating a drop panel would be similar to a secret sliding door, why not increase their chance by 1 or something (say at 10th). Your thoughts.

The problem with that is eventually the % chance gets so high that the DM may as well not even include secret doors anymore.
Alternatively, you could allow a thief to detect doors at 1/2 their find traps % (much more reasonable), or you could come up with your own % progression (like I did).

It still takes time to search for them, which most thieves won't be doing all the time: they'll still miss them if they don't look (unlike the elven "auto-detect" awareness that secret/concealed doors may be around). Also a nice solution

Is there a base chance for non thieves to find traps? I know there was something for hear noise but can't remember if they gave a chance for the other abilities of thieves.
Do you think percentile checks would go along with the usual 1d6 or would you make it either or?
