So Jerry, I read your yahoo profile and I see you list both paranormal and conspiracies amongst your interests. What are your favorite topics in these subjects?

As far as Conspiracy goes, I try to keep up on the bilderberg/illuminati stuff and the rosicrucians/templars. I find the UFO stuff pretty interesting as well, but illuminati and templar stuff mostly... i have both of them intertwined into nearly every rpg i run that takes place in the past 200 or so years. But rpg stuff aside... I just find those groups very facinating.
As for paranormal, mostly ghost hunting and haunted locations. Up till a few weeks ago I had a website up that listed almost 200 locations within a two hour drive of where i live. (it is under reconstruction curretnly)
In my younger days we used to do a lot of "ghost hunting", very non-scientific type. Ive never disbelieved the possibility of such things, and beleive i have seen and literally felt (physical contact) the real deal in some places... but I am skeptical of many of the extreems people are supposedly physically affected by such things. Including being skeptical as to if i really "felt" what i thought i felt.

Jerry,
Does your interest in Templars/Rosicrucians extend to Berenger Sauniere/Rennes le Chateau?
Just curious...

Yes it does, but i must admit to only recently... past couple of years. I had read bits and peices about these through the years but not till I had a chance to actually sit down and read holy blood, holy grail did i look at this closer.
My knowledge is still sub-standard on all this, heh, and since i spend most of my money investing on oop gaming stuff I have yet to get any hardcore books on the subject. There are a few intersting things on the WWW. But seperating the BS factor from the facts is tedious at best.

I stumbled into the whole Rennes thing via the band Tool, and more in depth from their drummer's fascination with it. www.dannycarey.org/ has some info, but I'm not sure, as you said, how much is BS. I used to have a Bookmark of a somewhat "official" site; I'll have to see if I can find it. Holy Blood, Holy Grail has crossed my reading list several times, but never got around to it. The whole historical period surrounding the Templars and the Rosicrucians is fascinating to me.

The Shadowlands webpage is a great source, not complete by any means but one of the better out there.
The Rennes le Chateau site you posted, I have been to a few times. A google of this and Templars or rosicrucians will bring up hundreds of sites. some arent worth spit but thats typical of the modern internet.
I had another really good site boomarked but i have misplaced it. i'lll have to dig around and see if i can find it again.
I recommend the book, highly. But be forewarned... its like trudging thru a medical reference book combined with a printer manual threaded thru 1500 years of european history. Definately not an easy read... mainly brief explanations/theories followed by unending names, dates, places, etc.
But hey... if you are a nut for tedious histories like myself then it will be right up your alley.

I read about half of it. Let's see if I can remember the gist of it:
The holy grail of legend comes from 'san greal'. This was a mistake. It was supposed to be 'sang real' which means Holy Blood. The authors believe the so-called holy grail is actually the blood of Jesus, carried down through the centuries via his relationship with Mary Magdalene and their children.
Is that about it?
And who are these descendants today? And what are they supposed to be doing with their magic Jesus blood?
I seem to remember the authors claimed people were secretly leaving them messages in the library or something like that? Seemed kinda hokey to me.

That was the end idea they were going for. I wasnt impressed with the summation chapters at the end of the book... they made huge leaps to draw thier conclusions. But the rest of the material seemed pretty good... although again... one must us the BS filter to extract fact from fiction.

Realizing it is, of course, Hollywood fantasy and adventure, I'm curious who saw National Treasure, the Nicholas Cage movie about the secret treasure linked to the Founding Fathers.
I finally saw it this past weekend, and I thought, as a movie, it did a great job of being a modern-day Raiders of the Lost Ark. Tying it all to the Free-Masons and the Templars was quite interesting also. I wasn't aware of that going in.
Anyway, JRM, if you've seen the movie, and you are the resident templar scholar, was this movie based on anything (theory or otherwise) or was it completely fantastical invention?

I have no opinion on it as yet. Im a curmudgeon about going TO the movies unless it is just something that MUST be seen on the big screen.
So, I am waiting for the cable/dvd release.
Over on the Freemasonry boards on Usenet, the talk seems to be positive and the reviews have been good. But those are based on the up or down presentation of the Masons. Otherwise peopel are sayinig its a great action flick.
I am considering, picking up the book and go from there so can get all the cutting room floor parts as well.

I saw it and was actually suprised at the acting level that Cage found. The movie wasn't to bad either, but if you like templar references just wait until the Da Vinci codes movie comes out. Templar are all over that movie...
