Man - the Art Institute of Chicago is incredible! If you ever get the chance to go, do so. My wife and I checked it out while I was on vacation. They have a very awesome collection of arms and armor, which are not replicas. And I saw at least one polearm that Gary did not include with AD&D. ;D

... And I saw at least one polearm that Gary did not include with AD&D. ;D HA! I remember thinking something similar when i first went there. But North is correct, It is definately worth the visit. I would even suggest anyone that has a weekend to kill to make the trip just for the Art Intitute. But I might also suggest fitting in the Museum of Natural History, another top notch place. Heck all the Chicago museums offer a whole lot and they are not that well known. I wont go to my Brothers up in Chicago without planning in a few extra days to hit the sites up there from the museums, china town, Navy Pier, and all the great archetecture which includes some Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Sorry for the rambling... but i fell in love with the city. If i could ever sell my house for a decent price we would be moving north. Jerry

Wow. North looks like a normal person! Are you sure he's a gamer?
If you guys ever get a chance to go to philly check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art (the one with the rocky statue). They have the biggest d**n sword i've ever seen.

Had a season pass the last year I lived in Chicago. One of my favorite places in the city. I worked just a few blocks down Adams from the Institute and would go there on lunch breaks. It's even nicer now that they've finally finished the park around it.
Chicago is a great town to live in if you're young and aren't trying to raise kids. It's a great town to live in if you are trying to raise kids and happen to be extraordinarily wealthy. If you don't fit into either of the above groups, it's a great place to visit.
(I'm talking about the city and not the 'burbs, here. The 'burbs are a whole other ball of wax.)

Sounds just like Boston...too bad, because my wife and I were thinking of Chicago as alternative to the crazy cost of living in southern New England.
mistere - the Philly Museum of Art is indeed awesome. I remember that place had some of the finest-condition Carolingian-era swords and helms outside of the British Museum that I'd seen, when I went there ten years ago. Great collection.

Sounds just like Boston...too bad, because my wife and I were thinking of Chicago as alternative to the crazy cost of living in southern New England. The cost of living in the Chicago area is nowhere near as much as it is on either coast. Living in the city is real tough price-wise. Living in the 'burbs is not as bad, depending on the 'burb. The commutes are horrible if you aren't working close to home (although it can't be worse than Boston, if the tales I hear are true). Check Chicagoland out. Just don't expect to be able to afford living in Lincoln Park, or even Naperville. You might have to live in Aurora or Romeoville, instead. R.A.

I'd kind of like to live in Chicago, and briefly considered moving there a couple years back, but alas the field I've stumbled my way into (music publishing) has pretty much zero presence there, so I'd have to get a job doing something else, and I have no other marketable skills. Unless I change fields I'm limited pretty much to LA, New York, or Nashville, and of those three I definitely prefer LA.
