Nowhere else to put it, so I guess I'll ask it here...
Anyone ever play Everway? It was from the mid-90's, made by WotC before they bought out TSR. It sounds interesting and quite different.

That's kind of what I'm asking. Apparently, it was mid-way between an RPG and a CCG, designed to get CCG'ers into RPG'ing. The milieau is supposed to be mythic and fairy tale-like. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for a father's day present. My dad is a big gamer (board, war, card, cpu), but has never been much into rpg's. I thought this might be a cool way to bridge the gap a bit. Despite some real good reviews, Everway was a market flop, and I've found a few copies for pretty cheap. R.A.

I never played it but I remember it (and think my FLGS might still have a shrinkwrapped copy sitting on the shelf...). Right after MtG hit and WotC was swimming in cash they dedicated a lot of it to this game -- written by Jonathan Tweet (who had previously designed Ars Magica and would, of course, go on to write the 3E PH), high end production values (full color & glossy before those were the norm), it was supposed to have totally revolutionized the rpg paradigm -- did it perhaps use some kind of MtG-esque cards as its randomizer instead of dice? It didn't quite work out that way -- the game was way too expensive, and too obtuse, and it sold like crap. This caused WotC to abruptly close down their rpg division and sack the entire staff (about 2 weeks before Xmas, IIRC -- I remember this causing a huge Sh*tstorm on Usenet at the time). They never released another rpg until they acquired TSR.
