Strange, but it intrigues me. Are there any songs of musical groups that you associate with gaming...perhaps because they were playing while you were playing? With me, most come from the early 80s: Asia...specifically "Heat of the Moment" Rod Stewart ABBA...yeah, I used to be a big fan... The Pretenders...specifically "Back On The Chain Gang" Prince There's a few others...the music doesn't have to be gaming oriented...like Midnight Syndicate or the like...just songs that somehow got associated in your mind with D&D.

The guys who I knew who were in to D&D in grade school and middle school were all about Iron Maiden and Ozzy and so forth. Kinda figures, you know?

So was I, but strangely I don't associate either or them or other metal groups with D&D.
Ok, maybe IM a little...

Maiden all the way!
Now I am cold but a ghost lives in my veins, Silent the terror that reigned - marbled in stone Shell of man god preserved - a thousand ages, But open the gates of my hell - I will strike from the grave
Powerslave! Reminds me of a bunch of dungeoneers exploring an old tomb and stirring up all kinds of undead horrors! ;D

I'm moderately embarrassed to admit that I wrote an entire adventure based around Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album (I never finished it (big surprise there!)and it was never played, but I definitely spent a while working on it). Other than that, and Maiden in general -- they were by far my favorite band when I was at my height of game-geekiness c. 86-89 -- I can't think of any songs/albums that are heavily associated with gaming in my mind. We didn't usually use background music when we were playing, or anything. One time we were playing a marathon session of Mekton and one of my friends had just gotten a James Brown Greatest Hits CD and we had it going on repeat the entire session -- probably about a dozen times through. I always think of that CD when I think of Mekton but I don't think it works the other way -- if I heard "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine, part 1" on the radio I don't think my mind would go immediately to Mekton (though if I heard that entire CD my mind would certainly go to that session...

I shudder to think what happened in that adventure based on "Can I play with madness?"

We constantly played to background music so it had to be low key and have sounds that fit the game.
Peter Gabriel, Alan Parsons, Jethro Tull (esp. songs from the wood), Tangerine Dream (esp. sorcerer, thief, risky bus., etc.), yeah alot of sound tracks that had cool music like Man Hunter. Lets see. Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult etc.
Then there was the semi instramental planatarium music like: Richard Burmer, claud something something, Patric Ohearn, Clannad (BBC Robin Hood soundtrack stuff), etc.
Really the best is anything that could be mistaken for a sound track in the actual game.

Asia...specifically "Heat of the Moment" . GGGAAAAAHHHHHH!!! Get out of my brain!!!!! That song especially gets me thinking about the Moldvay Basic set and my first forrays into the game. ;D The Conan the Barbarian sountrack as well. I saw that movie in the theaters when I was totally consumed by D&D as a kid.

"Francisca what is good in life"? TO CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES, TO DRIVE THEM BEFORE YOU, AND TO HEAR THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN! That one is easy. ;D Even for me.
